Winter Warmers

Yes, the days in Winter are short and cold, but that means you have more opportunities to see sunrise and sunset whilst bundled up in woolly jumpers. On the good days the sky is often clearer and bluer than summer, and the misty days make the historical buildings of Bath loom out of the shadows.

For us The Star Inn is the ultimate winter warmer Pub . Open fires and wood panelling make the small 17th Century rooms extra warm and snug. With bar games like Shove Halfpenny you can while away the hours talking over a quality pint. The Old Green Tree is the next contender, a small traditional pub where you can sit by the fire and read the newspaper whilst the snow falls outside.

For something more active we like a frosty winter walk along the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal, which meanders its way through the city and out into the surrounding countryside. On cold autumn days the mists lie low over the canal, and deeper into winter the waters freeze turning the canal and resident narrow boats into a winter wonderland. Within a 30 minute walk from Bath city centre you can reach The Bathampton Mill , a lovely pub overlooking the River Avon. It is a great location for couples and groups, with warm armchairs and roaring open fires.

For the adventurous pleasure seeker, we’d recommend the rooftop outdoor pool at Therme Bath Spa. Even in cold and frosty weather the pool is warm and steamy, with views out over the city skyline. A unique experience for a cold winter day, we also like to play mini golf at Victoria Falls Adventure Golf near the Royal Crescent . Not really possible on full snow days, but cold and dry is perfect for a competitive yet friendly game of golf! We are often the only mad people there, but less crowd’s means you can take your time and be as playful as you like.
