Beer Gardens Worth the Walk

Going for a long walk with a pit stop at a local beer garden is one of our summer pleasures. Reliant on our Great British weather, the walks can be 30 minute sprints or 4 hour ramble. Either way, there are a selection of beer gardens in and around Bath that are definitely worth the walk.

Top of the list has to be The Cross Guns in Avoncliff, a two and a half hour walk along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Bath city centre. The terraced beer garden steps down to the River Avon, where you can watch the water flow past mesmerised by the ducks and resident Kingfisher. Along with a great view, the pub is a Real Ale lovers paradise which makes it really popular during summer. It is well worth the walk, but if you are too tired to walk back you can get the train from Avoncliff to Bath Spa.

A little closer to home, The Bathampton Mill is a 30 minute walk along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Bath city centre. The walk is really easy, gently meandering its way through the city and out into the surrounding countryside. Leave the canal at The George Inn , another lovely Alfresco spot, and walk towards the river along Mill Lane. The pub sits on the banks of the River Avon, so you can sit outside day-dreaming at the weir.

Hare & Hounds sits at the top of Lansdown Road, however you walk there the beer garden is a welcome sight after the steep hill. The view from the garden is worth the effort and delivers all year round, with long views across the valley and Chalcombe village. It is a great family place, and they serve super tasty food to give you the boost of energy to walk back.
